IMPACT
We’re trying to do business better
Telling a different story
You won’t be surprised to read that we’re not in the business of greenwashing here. So this page isn’t designed to be a big pat on the back. It’s an honest look at where we’ve made conscious choices to do things differently, and at the areas we know we need to improve.
Each section explains our approach, and tells you what we’ve done so far and what our plans are for the coming year.
Our mission:
To get the good businesses in front of more people so we can help them make more money and more of an impact.
Our vision:
A world where business is a driving force for restoration and regeneration.
Pillar 1:
Radical generosity
There are so many citizen-led projects doing amazing things to make our society and planet kinder, safer, fairer and more beautiful. We want to support that as much as possible, and we know that one of the biggest barriers they face is how to reach more people and bring more people onboard.
Part of our purpose is for our client work to fund free support for social enterprises and community projects – not-for-profit organisations with smart ideas and a proven project, who need strategy and comms support to amplify their message and expand their project.
What we’ve done so far
~ In 2024 and 2025, we provided free consultancy and writing for Plant One. A total of 79 hours with a value of £7110. This equates to around 5% of our time.
What’s next? [2026]
~ We’re continuing our support for Plant One, and their new No Trees No Seas campaign.
~ As a small company with limited time to give, we want to focus on spreading rather than scaling. So, we’ll also be working on creating free resources for other projects to access.
Pillar 2:
Lead by example
What’s next [2026]
~ Work towards The Better Business Standard, the UK’s new accreditation framework for businesses that want to prove and improve their impact. It’s slightly more suited to a business of our size than B Corp, but no less rigorous.
~ Share our story more so others can see what we’re doing, and to help normalise doing business differently.
~ Write a code of conduct
What we’ve done so far
2023
~ Adopted the B Corp articles of association when we incorporated, even though we’re not a B Corp.
2024
~ Joined the Better Business Act coalition.
~ Signed the Sustainable Creative Charter.
2025
~ Implemented a ‘no new stuff’ policy (see below).
Pillar 3:
Choose consciously
Our buying, hiring and client decisions all have an impact. This is the nuts and bolts of how we make the decisions and make sure that our operations have a material positive impact on society and the environment.
Clients
We work with clients who are actively working to make the world a better place. Thankfully our marketing tends to put off the ones that aren’t.
We generally avoid companies that make stuff, unless they are truly making something that people actually need, and striving to make a positive difference at the same time.
What we’ve done so far
~ Actively seek out businesses that are doing business better. Two of our clients are now B Corp certified.
What’s next? [2026]
~ Formalise how we evaluate and choose to work with our clients.
Resources, energy and waste
We don’t maintain an office, we work remotely, and we don’t sell ‘stuff’. This makes things somewhat easier for us in this area, particularly with scope 1 and 2 emissions. Scope 3 still needs work.
We’re pedantic about minimising waste, and make sure things are appropriately reused, repurposed or recycled.
Our home office is heated using oil, which isn’t ideal, but the cost of switching to a heat pump is prohibitive at the moment.
What we’ve done so far
2023
~ Our (home) office runs on renewable electricity from Octopus.
2024
~ Website hosted with Krystal (through Unify Studio), which runs on 100% renewable energy.
~ Introduced a no-new-stuff policy (see below).
2025
~ Completed Carbon Literacy training.
What’s next? [2026]
~ Re-do our website to reduce the energy it uses even more.
~ Re-evaluate our use of Google workspace as the renege on their renewable energy commitments
No new stuff policy
The demand for new tech is killing our planet, and people. We don’t need a lot of stuff in our business, mainly tech, like phones and laptops, hardware, and office furniture. And we’re not daft enough to think that we could run the business without any tech. But we can be more mindful as to how we handle our tech. This policy was inspired by Scott Johnson from Kung Fu Accounting’s purchase policy…
- Do we really need it?
- Can we borrow it?
- Can we repair one we already have?
- Can we buy it second-hand or refurbished?
- If we need to buy new, can we buy it locally? (supporting local business owners, not Bezos)
- If we can’t buy it locally, we must buy it from an ethical supplier.
What we’ve done so far
~ A repaired iPhone 12 is still going strong.
~ Replacement headphones and phone case bought from Vinted.
~ Second-hand mouse bought from eBay.
~ Replacement cables sourced from local reuse group.
~ We have also rehomed no-longer needed headphones and recycled old iPhones.
What’s next? [2026]
~ Try not to be distracted by shiny new iPhones!
Travel
We’re based in Cornwall, where access to public transport is patchy at best, so to keep our emissions from travel low:
- We work almost entirely remotely, keeping the need for travel to a minimum.
- Where we do need to travel, we try to use public transport (most often the ferry) or lift share.
- If driving is unavoidable, then it’s combining meetings to reduce trips.
- Any out of county travel is usually by train.
What we’ve done so far
2025
~ In 2025, we travelled 578 miles by private vehicle.
~ 176 of those miles we gave lifts to other people, and we shared a ride with others for a further 144 miles so that we didn’t need to drive.
What’s next? [2026]
~ A conscious effort to reduce travel even further.
~ Swap to an electric vehicle when current car reaches end of life.
~ And to car share to events as much as possible, which we especially love because you get to meet brilliant people (looking at you Daiman and Jake from Anthropy!)
Money
There are two key areas where we’ve looked to make sure our money is working hard and doing its job in an ethical and responsible way.
We’ve made conscious choices about where we hold and invest our money. Greening your money is one of the most powerful things you can do to tackle the climate crisis – see more on Make My Money Matter.
We also make sure we pay all the tax we owe – paying our fair share is important to us as a responsible business.
What we’ve done so far
2023
~ Banking and savings with Starling and Nationwide, who do not finance the fossil fuel industry.
2024
~ Pensions invested with Pangea Impact Investments who invest in businesses that provide solutions to climate change and social inequality.
What’s next? [2026]
~ Re-evaluate Starling as their ethical rating has dropped in recent years.
~ Write formal tax statement in line with the Fair Tax Mark standards.
Pillar 4:
Stay curious and honest
We’re never going to be perfect, but incremental gains can add up to a big difference. Continuous learning, curiosity and honesty are how we make those incremental gains. This is in terms of both doing business better and being better at the services we deliver for our clients.
.What we’ve done so far
2024
~ A year-long training with regenerative business mentor Jannine Barron.
2025
~ Carbon literacy training.
~ Storytelling workshop with Matt Golding.
~ Ad-hoc client feedback interviews
What’s next [2026]
~ Anti-racism training.
~ Sales email training with Eddie Schleyner.
~Introduce formal and regular client feedback systems.
